About Me

Northwestern University has been slapped with two new lawsuits alleging 'devastating' sexual hazing practices in its athletic programs.

Former Northwestern football players filed two new lawsuits - the fourth and fifth overall - against the school yesterday, alleging they were subjected to demeaning and tortuous hazing rituals as freshmen - behavior they say coaches either encouraged or ignored when told.

The lawsuits speak of a ', and extreme mental abuse resulting in degradation, humiliation, embarrassment, and at times, causing devastating physical and mental illnesses to individual football players.'

In light of the most recent accusations, Northwestern hired former U.S.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch to lead an investigation into the culture of its athletic department and its anti-hazing procedures following the allegations of abusive behavior.

Lynch, who served as Attorney General from 2015 to 2017 under President Barack Obama, will begin her review immediately, the school in Evanston, Illinois, announced Tuesday.

The university gave no timetable for the investigation but said the results will be made public, unlike those of a previous investigation commissioned by the school.

The two new lawsuits were filed on behalf of former NFL and Northwestern running back Warren Miles Long, as well as a second unidentified plaintiff.

He alleged he was subjected to a hazing ritual that involved veteran teammates holding him down, groping his private areas and playing music from horror films.

'Hazing has absolutely no place at Northwestern. Period,' Northwestern President Michael Schill said in a statement.

'I am determined that with the help of Attorney General Lynch, we will become a leader in combating the practice of hazing in intercollegiate athletics and a model for other universities.
