There are worse players in the AL, and there are even worse players on the Yankees. There is, however, no more disappointing player. As young stars carry teams elsewhere, Torres’ bat has gone limp. He amazingly has been a better shortstop than hitter — and he is not much of a shortstop. He was central to the Yankees’ offense being the most disappointing unit in the majors the first half, to the point at which we will give the top five exclusively to them. I don’t see it as a bad or unexpected move. For it to happen a day after the World Series ends makes it seem the Reds are desperate to shred payroll and not even willing to risk paying the buy out. Your bottom line angle of 8 teams being too many is totally right. Your comment led me to introspection and this realisation. Upon review, six are plenty. Perhaps, even, tomorrow tips prediction too many. I wouldn't personally feel so, myself, but some of the old school guys in the back would probably like to see a return to how it was in the good 'ol days when the american league winner would play the national league winner in The post-season World Series for all the marbles, too. I like those guys. Taco Bell is bringing back its "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" promotion for the 2019 World Series, and this year, MGM Resorts International is joining the effort by offering a corresponding, real money wagering program in three states. The world series has declined in viewership nationally but its ratings in the participating teams cities are through the roof. Baseball TV raitings regionally are off the charts good. My point is that baseball has a different business model than the NFL. But its ratings are hurt because it competes with football, NBA, Hockey and 300 channels on CATV, Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. How on earth would it ever achieve higher ratings than it did when there were only 4 channels on TV? Again, you have to look at the real reasons behind the numbers.
